We have seen how the new coronavirus has paralysed some of the worlds most advanced healthcare systems. This has taken place in countries with social protection networks, where people have access to running water and space to isolate themselves and maintain distances. There is great worry that the virus will gain a foothold in places with weak healthcare and medical systems and among people who do not have the possibility to protect themselves. Doctors Without Borders works in five prioritised fields in order to support these areas: to protect particularly vulnerable groups; to ensure continued care other than for Covid 19; to protect health care personnel and risk groups; and to stop companies benefiting from the pandemic by, e.g. increasing prices or claiming patents on drugs.
– This year, Foyen has chosen to donate to Doctors Without Borders, an organisation with 50 years’ experience of saving lives and protecting the most vulnerable in conjunction with major outbreaks of disease.
